COUPLES & RELATIONSHIP THERAPY

Couples therapy / relationship therapy is a space for partners to work on their relationship together with the support of a trained therapist. Whether you're navigating a specific challenge, feeling distant from each other, wish to address your sexual relationship, or simply want to strengthen a relationship that's going well, therapy offers a structured, supportive setting to take the time to really hear each other.

Unlike your typical conversations at home, our sessions will involve me observing and helping you notice the patterns you might not see on your own — your communication style, where common misunderstandings happen, and what each of you actually needs from the other. We will not assign blame or declare a winner. Instead, the goal is to use curiosity and compassion to get to a deeper understanding of yourselves, each other, and your relationship

While many of my clients will show up as a couple, I use the term “relationship therapy” to welcome clients of all relationship types and structures.

Please note: I schedule relationship therapy sessions for 75 minutes, longer than the standard therapy hour.

Working with two people (or more than two for some relationships) means there's more to cover. Partners need time to share their perspective before we can dig into what's really going on. People in a relationship often arrive carrying tension from the week, or from the conversation on the drive over, and a shorter session can get used up just settling into a calmer place before the real work begins.

A big part of relationship therapy also happens in real time: watching how you and your partner communicate with each other, and practicing new ways of responding in the moment. That kind of work needs room to unfold — it can't be rushed to fit a shorter timeframe. The extra time also means we're less likely to end a session mid-conflict or mid-breakthrough. Instead, we can work toward a natural stopping point.
